Mastercard buying Recorded Future for $2.65 billion [Sep 12 2024]

Mastercard has agreed to buy threat intelligence company Recorded Future from private equity firm Insight Partners for $2.65 billion, the payments company said on Thursday. Global threat intelligence capabilities complement Mastercard’s existing suite of services delivering cyber resilience and trust.

"The acquisition bolsters the insights and intelligence used to secure today’s digital economy – in the payments ecosystem and beyond."

Mastercard recorded $9 trillion in gross dollar volumes last year, a metric that represents the total dollar value of all transactions processed.


U.S. Senate bill to protect health care data gets House partner[Aug 30 2024]

A bipartisan Senate bill aimed at safeguarding Americans’ health care data now has a House companion.

The Healthcare Cybersecurity Act would require the Cybersecurity and Infrastructure Security Agency and the Department of Health and Human Services to team up on a variety of measures to strengthen cyber defenses and provide resources to non-federal organizations in the health care space.

In end of July, Committee members voted 10-1 to advance three bipartisan pieces of legislation, Streamlining Federal Cybersecurity Regulations ActHealthcare Cybersecurity Act, and the Federal Cyber Workforce Training Act.


U.S. AI Safety Institute Signs Agreements Regarding AI Safety Research [Aug 29 2024]

 The U.S. Artificial Intelligence Safety Institute at the U.S. Department of Commerce’s National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST) announced agreements that enable formal collaboration on AI safety research, testing and evaluation with both Anthropic and OpenAI.

Additionally, the U.S. AI Safety Institute plans to provide feedback to Anthropic and OpenAI on potential safety improvements to their models, in close collaboration with its partners at the U.K. AI Safety Institute.
